When we chose to affiliate ourselves with Troy Taylor of The American Ghost Society we did so because it seemed our organizations shared a fundamental belief- that history is often linked to hauntings and that solid historical research is a principle tenants of good paranormal research. Because RISEUP is based Rhode Island, with members represented in MA and CT, our group encompasses a dominant section of Southern New England- a region packed with colonial and pre-colonial history. It is beyond irony that reports of ghosts and hauntings are also prevalent. We place extreme importance in providing all parties with thorough and accurate research about a particular location prior to investigating as information concerning real history can undoubtedly provide vital knowledge  about a particular haunting scenario.

We have also been privileged to have investigated claims of paranormal activity in a number of Nationally Registered Historical Places:

  • Ancient Yarmouth Cemetery (Barnstable, MA)

  • Belcourt Castle (Newport, RI)

  • Chase-Cory House (Tiverton, RI)

  • Eastern State Penitentiary (Philadelphia, PA)

  • Fort Adams (Newport, RI)

  • Fort Barton (Tiverton, RI)

  • Fort Mifflin (Philadelphia, PA)

  • Governor Bradford House (Bristol, RI)

  • Newport Armory (Newport, RI)

  • Paine House and Museum (Coventry, RI)

  • Rose Island Lighthouse (Newport, RI)

  • Sprague Mansion (Cranston, RI)

  • Sterling Opera House (Derby, CT)

  • The Old Jail (Barnstable, MA)

  • Whaley House (San Diego, CA)

  • Warner Theater (Torrington, CT)

Stewards for these sites have expressed their permission to post our documents and findings publicly. Others, though ultimately satisfied with our results, have requested that their particular locations not be made public. A major pitfall in acknowledging a nationally registered historic place to be a “haunted house” comes when unfounded legends and spooky stories begin to overshadow the historical significance of the location. This is a mistake, as a true haunting is generally related to the history of a location. We therefore assert - with the utmost sincerity - that the promotion of historical significance and the physical preservation of these properties are of the highest priority to RISEUP Paranormal.
