Founder / Director / Chief Investigator

Ken DeCosta

Ken is a resident of Tiverton, RI and has been researching the paranormal since childhood. At age 8 he began reading about UFOs and by 16 had read Project Blue Book cover-to-cover. This interest eventually led him into research of Ghosts and Hauntings. He found himself fascinated by the concept of applying scientific methodology to paranormal investigation and the prospect of linking it to historical research. In founding RISEUP he has gathered a team of people who share his passion for conducting objective, unbiased paranormal research. He is also a member of the TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) Home Team. Ken lives with his wife of 28 years, Dawn - who is quite satisfied with staying home and steering clear of ghosts, UFOs and Bigfoot. He is an avid sports fan and long-time coach and administrator who has operated numerous local baseball leagues.

Founder /Assistant Director / Head of Occult Studies

Dave is also a resident of Tiverton and was introduced to paranormal research at very young age. As as student of Ancient Myth and Analytical Psychology he was further inspired to contribute, like his father, to bringing legitimacy to paranormal and psychical research. His knowledge of myth, legend, and folklore provide a good building block for those cases where evidence may favor ghostly, spiritual, extraterrestrial, or cryptozoological explanations. David is an avid fisherman who enjoys hiking and anything related to the outdoors.

Head of Research / Tech Specialist / Investigator

Chris is a resident of Tiverton, RI. He joined RISEUP because he is fascinated by the modern boom of paranormal topics in the media and wanted to be a part of a group that used a very pragmatic approach to investigations. This will allow him to partake in objective investigations and draw some of his own conclusions. Chris owns a B.A. in Historic Preservation from Salve Regina University and has a background in Archeology, Anthropology, and Historical Research Methods. He is invaluable in applying this knowledge to research home and property records.

Investigator / Researcher

Julie is a resident of Somerset, MA and has been keenly interested in the science of the paranormal for many years.  She has a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Rhode Island College and has been working as a defense contractor for over twenty five years.  She founded Pet Sitting and More in 1996 and currently teaches classes for others who wish to start their own business.  Her first paranormal investigation was at a clients’ home where she captured video of someone being scratched.  This experience led her to want to be part of more investigations and focus on data capture.  Without this data, possible evidence can only be considered a personal experience.  Julie is an avid sports fan and loves to travel.

Video & Photography Specialist / Investigator

Shayna is a resident of Hope, R.I. and has had a keen interest in the paranormal for as long as she can remember stemming from a few personal experiences of her own. Shayna operates her own photography studio - SD Photography - and is continuing her education at the New York Institute of Photography. Her professional background makes her invaluable in assessing the validity of anything suggested to be of "paranormal" nature within a photograph or video. Another benefit of being a RISEUP investigator is the opportunity to investigate with her dad, Dave Grady. Shayna lives in a possibly-haunted house with her husband Dan and their 3-year-old Boxer, Belle.

Investigator / Wildlife Specialist

Marlaina is a resident of Somerset, MA and has had many personal paranormal experiences since her childhood.  She currently runs Pet Sitting and More and provides pet and house sitting services.  She possesses an extensive medical background (i.e., dialysis technician, veterinary surgical assistant, EMT, and firefighter) and has been a wildlife rehabilitator for over 25 years now.  She loves photography, listening to music, and riding her motorcycle.

Head of Tech Dept. / Systems Specialist / Investigator

David also is a resident of Hope, R.I. where he has lived for the past 24 years with his wife Mary and their two daughters, Shayna (Drinkuth) and Heather. Dave has been employed as a heavy-equipment mechanic for 30 years and brings a great deal of practical knowledge of building construction and mechanical systems which aids us in discerning man-made sources of activity from paranormal ones. Dave has had a life-long interest in unexplainable phenomena and his interest in the paranormal ranges from ghosts and hauntings to UFOs and Native American folklore. When not chasing ghosts or visiting different parts of the country, Dave enjoys hunting, fishing, photography, computers and electronics and is a member of Skyscrapers Astronomy Club in Scituate, R.I.

He is an experienced interviewer and researcher who has done a great deal of work with Veterans returning from Iraq as well as a number of other analytical studies and currently works for Brown University. An avid baseball fan, Ryan is our token New York Yankee supporter which is tolerated for the most part within the group.

Investigator

Nancy resides in Seekonk, MA. She has had a strong curiosity in paranormal research for several years, triggered by many personal experiences for which she could find no logical cause. Not one to jump to conclusions, Nancy will seek out all other explanations before considering the paranormal. When traveling, she will purposefully seek out destinations that have claims of the paranormal, once staying at the Jerome Grand Hotel in Arizona. Nancy has worked for over 18 years for a local non-profit human services agency. She enjoys entertaining, spending time with her family and her many friends.

 Occult Studies / Investigator

Jay is a resident of North Kingstown, RI.  He is a very keen observer regarding paranormal phenomena and has had a handful of experiences in his own life. This is perhaps what makes him one of the group's toughest skeptics and a tenacious investigator. He is also an experienced woodsman and familiar with much of the native flora and fauna here in New England. This is particularly helpful in distinguishing natural sounds on outdoor investigations and plotting larger investigation areas. When not pursuing claims of the paranormal, Jay can be seen playing local clubs with his band The Ghost of Otis.

Investigator

Case Manager / Public Relations / Investigator

Tom developed a curiosity  in the paranormal at an early age from several personal experiences and a deep desire to learn more about the unknown. As a teenager he found himself investigating suspected haunted houses and cemeteries in his home state of Rhode Island while reading as much as he could about ghosts, spirits, UFOs, Bigfoot, etc. While he keeps an open mind to all possibilities he tends to be skeptical about most paranormal events as he works to find a more likely conclusion. Tom resides in Cranston, RI today and has worked in the broadcasting field for over 15 years. He attended Rhode Island College for Mass Communications and enjoys movies, music, and sports. He also has a talent for research and writing and hopes to add many interesting and entertaining articles to the website.

Investigator

    •      Wendy is a resident of Warwick, RI. She has had an interest in the paranormal for many years. After traveling to several infamous haunts over the years, including the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, and Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, her curiosity peaked and she began to seek out answers. When claims began in a building that she spent much of her time in, Wendy began investigating on a regular basis. Naturally skeptical, she was in awe of the evidence she captured. Wendy has worked as a nurse for 25 years and in the field of developmental disabilities for over 18 years. She is a jewelry maker/metalsmith by hobby and sells her wares at local art festivals.
