   What makes a place haunted? Why do some places seem to harbor the spirits of the dead while others do not? Is it because of the trauma and suffering related to an event that makes it possible for places like Alcatraz and Gettysburg to become beacons for paranormal activity? Do spirits have a message for the living that they are trying to deliver? Or is it merely the imprint of human energy on a location that remains in the surrounding atmosphere?

   We have compiled a listing of reputed and documented haunted locations throughout the world and the history associated with each that may go a long way in explaining the phenomena that has been witnessed there. All of us recall the old abandoned house in our neighborhood that we as children dared not venture into. The ancient cemetery that was said to house the restless spirits of those who still walk the earth or the stretch of treacherous road that is said to claim many lives under peculiar circumstances.
